Local Man Wins Turnip Growing Contest For the Third Time

Winning the second time this year, Pat Nesbit of Gannon responded to the hot turnip season by growing the most turnips for 11 ounces of a Harvard special plant mix.

The contest was held on Sunday at the Cactus House at Gannon Farms in Garner Township.

“We got some very heavy votes on social media,” said Mike Nesbit, 40, who owns the Gannon Farms. “A lot of our young folks voted. They said we should not be giving out prizes for our 15-year-old chickens.”
